The architect displayed dedication in using passive design via perforated brick walls and fragmented metal roofs, to allow natural light and ventilation into the working spaces of this plastic production facility. The fracturing of the single volume, facing a central garden provided opportunities for a more dynamic architectural response. The patterned and porous brick walls serve as sieves that keep the rain out while allowing air in. There is clever structural resolution of the brick piers using a corner steel stiffener and L-shaped configuration, which allows them to rise up 3-stories high. The welfare of workers was addressed by an architecture of delight and craft, while pushing the boundaries of the humble brick.
