SIA Gold Medal 2015

Mr. Lim Chong Keat

Mr. Lim Chong Keat was born in Penang, and educated at Penang Free School, University of Malaya, University of Manchester, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Manchester (1995-2004), and as the Quatercentenary Visiting Fellow at Emmanuel College, Cambridge (1995). Mr. Lim was the PAM Gold Medallist in 1997, and the recipient of the SIA Gold Medal in 2015.

Mr. Lim was active in SIA, Singapore Polytechnic School of Building & Architecture, CAA, Arcasia, and the Housing and Development Board. He practised under Malayan Architect’s Co-partnership and Architects Team three, and served many advisory roles in education and urban planning. Two of his projects were gazetted as national monuments - Singapore Conference Hall (2010) and Jurong Town Hall (2015).

He retired from active practice in 1995, and has served advisory roles in education and urban planning. He has served as Chairman of the Malaysian Forestry Research & Development Board, FRIM (2001-2004), and has been dedicating himself to botanical research, inter alia, and currently in the publishing of the journal Folia malaysiana, and with the Suriana Botanic Conservation Gardens in Penang. He was recently elected a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia.

He served as SIA’s President from 1967 to 1969.
