DISSOLVING THE WALL
MERIT
The scheme is driven by the idea of dissolving physical and symbolic boundaries, translating the philosophy of non-duality into an architecture of openness, permeability and layered spatial relationships.
The proposal is organised as a low, horizontally articulated form that frames a sequence of foyer, forecourt, and courtyard spaces. Rather than relying on enclosure, the scheme defines space through structural rhythm, jali screens, level changes, and shaded transitional zones, creating a porous environment that supports multiple modes of occupation.
The jury appreciated the clarity with which spatial multiplicity, environmental response, and social use were integrated. Flexibility is reinforced through a clear structural logic and adaptable internal configurations, allowing the building to respond to changing programmatic needs over time. Overall, the scheme demonstrates a confident architectural language that aligns spatial experience with the Mission’s spiritual and social values.
